RESEARCH CONFIRMS HALF OF BYRON SHIRE RESIDENTS BELIEVE 5G OUGHT TO BE A “LAST RESORT”

Byron Bay is an internationally recognised tourist destination, with its idyllic nature and laid-back alternative vibe.

It’s also one of the most prominent strongholds against 5G in the world, with safe tech activists holding one of the longest international tower vigils in the township of Mullumbimby. Residents have now kept a constant presence at the tower for well over a year to prevent telco operators from upgrading and activating it to 5G.

But what does the community at large REALLY think about 5G?

Earlier this year, Northern Rivers for Safe Technology decided to find out by commissioning an independent research survey.

Here are some of the key findings:

50% of all residents agree 5G should be a last resort because there are other viable alternatives

50% of all respondents report feeling a little or strongly concerned or alarmed about 5G

40% of respondents have safety concerns about 5G, with only 23% feeling safety testing is adequate.

The research confirms something we’ve known for a long time: that residents simply don’t know enough about 5G and its potential impacts for telcos to proceed!

The industry has thrown the precautionary principle out the window on this one.
